Jonesborough Storytellers Guild Kansas City Road Trip
Welcome to the JSG "Kansas City Here we Come" Road Trip blog.
In 2013, several members of the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild, (JSG) participated in a workshop at the National Storytelling Network's annual conference in Virginia. During the session, which was led by storyteller Willy Claflin, we were encouraged to think of ways to promote storytelling. One of the suggestions we came away with was the idea of an old-fashioned road trip replete with guild storytellers who would tell at various stops on the way to the next years' conference. That didn't happen in 2014, but the dream grew into reality in 2015. As a result, 10 guild storytellers, with several supporting members, will travel to Kansas City, Missouri in late July for the 2015 annual National Storytelling Network Conference.
In that light, we are seeking sponsors, and venues between Jonesborough and Kansas City. Possible stops: Sevierville, Tennessee, Evansville Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky, St. Louis, Columbia and then Kansas City Missouri.
Based in Tennessee's oldest town, the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild has been telling tales downtown since 1994. Founded by storyteller David Joe Miller, the guild began with just seven members: David Joe, Leon Overbay (current president,) Linda Poland, Carol Anne and Treetop Huebner, G. Lee. Hearl and Bob Philips. Telling almost every Tuesday night someplace on Main Street since that time, the guild attracted many fine storytellers to its stage. As a result, the guild now boasts a performance troupe with 24 auditioned, mentored performing members, and a large group of dedicated supporting members.
