Kansas City Here We Come Rummage Sale

The Jonesborough Storytellers Guild Road Trip is building up a head of steam that won't be stopped. We've gotten the loan of Mark Hicks' former law office at 107 Courthouse Square, and are busily at work filling it with goods to sell May 16 at the Town wide Yard Sale.

Thus far we've got a great selection of books, knickknacks, lamps, wall decor, pieces of glassware and pottery, Christmas decorations, hats, art materials, beany dolls and plenty more a'comin', and we've only been collecting three days!

If you live in the area and wish to donate, let us know by commenting to this blog post, or contacting the guild through www.storytellersguild.org.

Going on this trip is Judy Butterfly Farlow, one of the eight performing members who are committed to this trip. She tells tales for both adults and kids that will make you laugh and cry, but always promise a good "Happy Ever After. She has told on the White House lawn, painted faces for every child within miles, and broken the toughest characters into tears with her spoken-word ballads. Check our website for her next performance at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, TN with the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild.

Kansas City Road Trip Storyteller Profile - Linda Poland

Linda Poland

Known as the Jonesborough Flame and the official Resident Storyteller of Jonesborough, Linda Poland is a founding member of the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild. With a strong marketing and public relations background, she parlayed her gift for storytelling into Positive Solutions, booking storytelling tours far beyond Jonesborough’s borders, but here, at home, she focused on local stories, teaching locals and visitors alike about our unique story. An avid collector of oral histories, she added numerous tales to the story-cache of historical stories in Tennessee’s oldest town. Many of those stories, including some downright scary ones, have found light again in performance, much to the delight of her audiences.

The Long Road Calls an Adventurous Heart

It seems the road really is rising up to meet us as the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild prepares for our Kansas City trip July 24 - August 2.

Making contact with guilds and venues from Tennessee to Kentucky to Indiana to Missouri has been a rewarding experience as our potential stops are as excited as we are.

For now, we'll be in Corbin, KY with the kids at Corbin's Primary and Elementary School Summer Program; we're looking at some cool concerts in Lexington, Louisville and St. Louis, and we'll stop in Evansville, Indiana for a house concert/story slam put together by MaryJo Huff and her fellow storytellers. We'd like to tell sacred stories the next morning, so if you know of anyone in Evansville who would be willing to host us, let me know in the comment section.

Larry Brown arranged to have us perform at a senior center for a group of active folks who are expecting some fine entertainment in Columbia, Missouri, and we're working on some gigs in Kansas City prior to the annual National Storytelling Network Conference.

Kansas City, Here we come!
